Setting Sun Woman: Clan Mother of the Ninth Moon Cycle
Aug 20, 2025
As we move toward the quieter days of fall, we come into the teachings of the Ninth Clan Mother, Setting Sun Woman. In Jamie Sams’ book The Thirteen Original Clan Mothers, she’s described as the keeper of tomorrow’s dreams and goals. She teaches us about living with honesty, walking our talk, and taking responsibility for the choices we make.
This is a natural time to pause and look at the “harvest” of our actions—what’s working in our lives, and what isn’t. Setting Sun Woman reminds us that the way we live today shapes what we’ll experience tomorrow. She also teaches discernment: the importance of knowing when to say yes, when to say no, and when it’s best to sit quietly and do nothing at all.
Her wisdom is about living in alignment with what we know to be true, and carrying only what we need into the future.
Journal prompts to work with Setting Sun Woman:
-
What choices have I made this year that I feel good about?
-
Where do I feel out of alignment with myself?
-
What do I want to let go of before stepping into the next season?
-
What’s one simple action I can take today that will shape a better tomorrow?
If you’d like to explore this together in community, I invite you to join our Monthly Moon Circle. It’s a time for reflection, sharing, and ritual—simple practices that help us stay rooted in our truth while moving forward with intention.
